Student 2009

1st: “Rise of a New World” – Shawn Chung-Cheng Hsu/Academy of Art University

Print

Rising sea levels are a reality because of global warming. We know the problem is becoming more serious. As a graphic designer, the goal of my project is to warn young people about this issue and send messages about other consequences of climate change in my project titled, “Rise of a New World.” It is in the form of a graphic novel and newly designed action figures to tell this fictional story of life in the year 2106. In this project, I am using new and different methods to express the issue of global warming.

2nd: “WHOLE” – Katy Liao/Academy of Art University

whole story1

WHOLE is an eco-friendly clothing brand that reminds everyone to take care of other elements and creatures in our world by mending and reusing their clothing. The brand endeavours to lengthen the lifespan of a t-shirt by using sustainable materials from the beginning, providing mending kits, and challenging customers to wear the piece of clothing for as long as they can. When the t-shirt is no longer wearable, the clothing fibers will be recycled into journal paper.

3rd (tie): “Six Degrees – Pictorial Explanation of Global Warming” – Si Yeun Kim/Central Saint Martins

6_outline

Climate change is a global issue, therefore should be communicated clearly throughout the world. The initiative of this project is to design a pictorial language that can visualize complex information in a simple way, and most importantly visualize it so that it can form a standardized understanding throughout the world, no matter what spoken or written language is used.

3rd (tie): “The End Paper” – R3/Academy of Art University

gd2_poster

This R3 (Rethink/Reimagine/Redesign) poster and direct mail campaign serves to inform our target audience about the R3 mission and build awareness around designing better products. The poster side, The End, raises the compelling question of what happens to a product at the end of its lifecycle. The backside of the poster functions as a set of facts and also a call-to-action to join the R3 dialogue about designing products for a better tomorrow.

3rd (tie): “Lifecycle Book” – R3/Academy of Art University

R3_lifecycle3

R3 (Rethink/Reimagine/Redesign) is a collaborative effort by the graphic design students at the Academy of art University and John Roberts Printing to promote sustainable design. The R3 approach focuses not only on redesigning better things, but on better experiences as well. This latest collection of R3 projects demonstrates each student’s careful consideration, unique abilities, innovative solutions and earnest desire to create better experiences through products.
